{Our trip to the ER}

i know that it's inevitable with kids, that at some point, we will have to take them to the emergency room...or so i'm told! but i am definitly not one of those moms who rushes to the doctor everytime her kid is sick. often i wait to see if what ever they have will run its course and, usually, that is the case. i would also say that rarely are my kids sick, or at least sick enough to see a doctor. it is true that ever since we moved to arizona our kids have had numerous colds, not to mention the first day out here we had to take our daughter to an urgent care for a respiratory illness. sunday after church our son had a  high fever...104...he acted completly normal, a little fussy but not ill. we gave him tylenol through out the day. monday same thing. by monday night his fever was still 103.6 so i gave him tylenol and put him to bed. 2 hours later he woke up with a 104.2 fever on tylenol! what's a mom to do! we tried everything to get his fever down. i then called the doctor, no response, i called the on-call doctor...no response.  so we decided to go into the ER.  we've never been to the ER with our kids before. i must say that for being so late in the night they did exceptionally well...thank you Lord for your grace!  however looking back it was quite a humerous night...and again i say looking back because during it, we were not having an enjoyable time!  after they took his temp. it was 104.6 so they took us to another waiting room until a room opened up. while waiting they gave ethan some more medicine to try and get his fever down...he gagged and threw up all over me and my things! we got us all cleaned up and continued to wait....all the while ethan was sitting there as content as can be and peyton was pretty much sitting on daddy's lap talking away.  i asked jeff to hold ethan for a while and of course he's hesitant because he doesn't want to get thrown up on (apparently this medicine is tough on tummies) but he does and i take peyton. Not 2 seconds after daddy takes him does he start throwing up all over jeff! peyton takes one look at ethan (and from the sight and the smell) begins to throw up all over me!! I can't imagine what we looked like from other's perspectives! after that big fiasco and all is cleaned up, jeff decides to go home with peyton and get clean clothes and some other items that we could use. i continue to sit and hold ethan, all the while smelling of vomit! ethan and i finally get a room. the doctor checks his ears, throat and lungs....and says that everything sounds great and looks great and that obviously his body is fighting an infection and that's why he has a fever...well duh!  he then continues to tell me that if i waited and went to see his doctor they would more than likely send me home to just monitor his temp and come back in a few days if worse because from the looks and sounds of it he's fine. but because we came to the ER they are required to run certain test.  (of course i'm thinking in my head, was this all a waste of time, should I have just kept us home and waited?)   thank the Lord for wisdom in times like this and i especially marvel at the beautiful creation of our bodies.  if i had waited to bring him in to his doctor they would not have done a routine chest x-ray they would have just sent us home.  in a little while ethan would get sicker and then i would have to bring him back in and he would be suffering. however, because i went into the ER they did do a chest x-ray and they found that he had the beginning of pnuemonia...a small lung infection...but if left untreated would have gotten worse! At this point, other than having a fever, ethan was completly fine...a little more snuggly..but acting fine. we left the ER at 1:30 in the morning with a prescription for his infection and peace of mind! again, I thank the Lord for His protection and care for us and stand amazed at how we are so wonderfully and beautifully made!

Thank the Lord everything is ok. My Ethan is the same way. You never know that he's sick until it's really, really bad. He never complains either. Maybe it's an Ethan thing. I did have to laugh about all the puking though. I've been there. If you can't laugh at the ridiculous things sometimes you'll spend your life miserable. Love ya and hope the little man gets better soon.
